The OSA has recently been in contact with Hilary Halter (née Hockley, YG 1952), who was President of the Friends' School Saffron Walden Old Scholars' Association 2002-3. We would like to offer her warm congratulations on her recent, and well-deserved, award of a MBE for Services to Vulnerable People.
"Much to my astonishment, on the first of May this year I received a letter from the Cabinet Office informing me that I am to be awarded an MBE for Services to Vulnerable People.
When I retired from work, in the mid-nineties, I decided that I could not just sit in front of the television all day. I began offering my services to care homes and started leading discussion groups. Over the years, I have built up a library of sets of pictures covering what has happened, the history of advertising, money, entertainment and more. I now lead five groups per week.
I do what I do because I enjoy it and, apparently, other people also enjoy it – what a bonus!"
Congratulations again, Hilary!
