Saffron Walden Quakers Oppose Council Investment

Following Uttlesford District Council's decision to invest in a site which will be leased out to an arms manufacturer, Saffron Walden Quaker Meeting met for a special meeting to discuss their response. The Meeting decided to write to the council requesting they reverse their decision, and the letter was co-authored by a group including former members of staff. Discussions are now ongoing between the Council and the Meeting. The related article in the Saffron Walden Reporter (04 March 2021) is below.Old Scholars brought up the topic of the Council's investment on the Old Scholars' Facebook Group, and wondered how the school might have voiced its opposition were it still open. This above is a timely reminder that, though the school is gone, the community of Quakers in Saffron Walden continues!
