Roger S. Blackshaw (YG 1944)

We are very sorry to announce that Roger Blackshaw passed away peacefully on 7th July 2015 of pancreatic cancer.

Born in Bolton, Lancashire, England July 26, 1924, son of John Blackshaw and Annie Watts and older brother of Jean Gray (deceased), Roger attended Friends' School from 1934-1940. He later graduated from Bootham School, York in 1942 and Manchester University in the Honours School of Engineering at the Faculty of Science in 1944.

Roger served as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Navy. Shortly after the conclusion of WWII, he worked for Sharples in Brazil electrifying the São Paulo Railway until 1952, where he met and married Ilka Ebner. They had three sons, Gilbert J. Blackshaw (1953-1993), Richard S. Blackshaw and Roger A. Blackshaw.
In 1964 he moved to New Providence Island, Nassau, Bahamas to work for E.P. Taylor at Lyford Cay Company and later New Providence Development Company at which, Lyford Cay became his lifelong residence.
In 1968 he married Helen (Di Rienzo) Furguson (1927-1996).
